Given the picture above, students will be asked to work on various grammar and vocabulary points to primarily develop their speaking, listening, and writing skills.
• First, just one of the pupils shall be allowed to see the picture. Then, the others will have to start making questions in turns trying to guess what the picture is about.
Possible questions might be:
Is it a landscape?
Is it a building?
Is it a portrait?
What can you do there?
How many people are there?
Etc.
• Second, once one of the students has guessed the right answer: “It is a picture of a bedroom”, that pupil wins to see the picture and join the other to help him answer the questions made by the rest.
From now on, they will have to use, for instance:
-is there …? / are there…?
-is it big or small?
-is it old or new?
-are there pictures on the wall?
-How many pictures are there?
-Where are they?
-Can you see a window there? What colour is it? Is it big or small? Does it have curtains?
-What can you see under the window? etc
And so on, with the rest of elements (chairs, tables, beds, doors, etc)
Students should keep asking until they find out most of the elements.
From time to time, the teacher may give them some hints/clues in order to go faster with this part of the activity.
• Next, students should have already collected most of the details to be able to get their own picture drawn.
• Then, all of them will show their drawings to the others (except the two asking). They will check similarities and differences among all the drawings.
• After that, the original picture shall be revealed and they will check how close they have been.
• Finally, they could write a description of the original picture and comment the differences with their previous version of it.
Homework: They should search the internet for the name of the author and the title of the work, as well as other works by the same author and a summary of his biography.
