First of all, a short biography of Keith Haring and a description of the meaning of some of their most famous paintings will be presented to the class. Such as the famous "No title" (1984) in which we can see a red heart and two male figures underneath and "Rebel With Many Causes" (1989).
Emphasis will be made on the importance of the author to deal with issues of race, sexuality and violence of his time trying to send possitive messages and to tackle situations dealing with them.
After this introduction, the work of art will be presented to the students along with some words related to it such as fight, obedience, politics, opression, homosexuality, AIDS and so on.
Students will be asked to work in pairs and think about a posible meaning on one of the colourful scenes from the work of art. They can use the words next to the painting and they must justify their ideas.
They should answers to the following questions:
1. What can you see on the scene?
2. What do you think is the meaning of the scene?
3. What message is the author trying to send?
For questions 2 and 3, students must use expressions to give their opinions on the scene like:
-"We think that",
-"As we see it",
etc that have been previously work in class.
