Now that the Spring is (almost) here, we will work with famous flower paintings. This activity is aimed at 1º ESO, to practice listening and speaking skills.
I have picked some famous pictures with flowers on, and now that we have seen plenty of adjectives, directions, the imperative and There is/there are, we are ready for a picture dictation whenever I feel that they need a break.
I will describe the picture to them, a picture they have not seen yet. The idea is not copying the painting but being able to spot the objects on the picture and draw their own version. They can also make questions to get more details.
I think it will be fun to see, when they are finished, the original one.
Some of the paintings that may be used are:
BULLFINCH AND WEEPING CHERRY BLOSSOMS, by Katsushika Hokusai
FLOWERS IN A CRYSTAL VASE, by E. Manet
BLACK IRIS III, by Georgia O’Keeffe
IRISES, by Vincent Van Gogh
FLOWERS, by Andy Warhol
SUNFLOWERS, by Vincent Van Gogh
WATER LILIES, by Claude Monet
THE FLOWER SELLER by Diego Rivera
STILL LIFE WITH FLOWERS ON A MARBLE SLAB, by Rachel Ruysch
POPPY FLOWERS, by Vincent van Gogh
