It is an activity related to image analysis. In this case, a photograph taken by Dorothea Lange in 1933, called "Breadline".
Firstly, students will describe the two basic components of all images: Signifier or denotative content and meaning or connotative content.
Secondly, it is a historical photograph. They probably do not know its context, so they will speculate each other in english about when, where, why and what is happening in this photo.
Thirdly, They will ask the main character of the image all their doubts about his historic moment, his expression or his feelings...
Finally, They will look for information related to the historical context of "Breadline".
