The activity is developed in three different steps:
1. Students revise vocabulary related to animals. They choose one of the graffitis from the gallery and describe the animal: appearance, (colour, size, weight, etc), type of animal, (mammal, amphibious, bird...)- habitat, (jungle, sea, house...) diet, (carnivorous, herbivorous...) interesting facts,( pet, endangered animal, etc).
Click on this link for the gallery.
2. Students express their opinion about "Street Art".
By using the expressions "I think, in my opinion, it seems to me, from my point of view..." they say if they like this type of art, if it is good for the passers-by and for the neighbourhood, if it can be considered real art in comparison with traditional art, etc.
3. For and against debate: animals kept in captivity.
Students are divided into two groups, one for the idea of keeping animals in captivity, ( zoos, circus, animal shows...) in order to study them and preserve some species , and another against captivity, defending their freedom and natural habitat. Students practise opinion expressions again, but also contrast by using: "on the other hand, however, although, I see your point but..., I disagree, etc".
The first two activities are presented and done directly in the classroom, the third has to be prepared at home to be done on the following day.
PS: If the link for the activity doesn't work, ( it is too long), please type "animal grafiti barrio del oeste Salamanca" on Google and you will see the different images.
