Shared by Laura Vega:
I have chosen "Bedroom in Arles" by V. Van Gogh to explain the different prepositions of place in English.
The lesson will start with the display of the picture to the students during a couple of minutes and the request of telling what impressions of the picture they have (comfort, strain, childish, etc.)
Then, I will teach them some prepositions of place such as "behind", "next to" or "above" and I will ask them to write them on their notebooks (to review later).
The next step is that the students work in pairs, and one of the them in each pair, and now without looking at the picture, tries to describe the room to his/her mate. The latter will have to draw what he/she is being depicted.
When they finish (describing and drawing), they will compare their productions with the original painting and they will have to comment on the possible differences.
I can assign a prize to the pair which has committed less mistakes.
To finish, I will provide them with a short and easy biography of Vincent Van Gogh and we will read it in class, in order for them to know more about the life of the painter.
