When I have used piece works of Art in my lessons, they have always been a success. At least, from my point of view as a teacher of English. I think that images are very powerful tools and they are great resources to exploit.
This time I suggest a very simple task that I have sometimes used for my 1st year of Eso students. We are going to use 'The Bedroom' by Van Gogh to practice over some bits of grammar (there is/are and prepositions of place).
We can start with a very simple description task. Students can write some sentences to describe the bedroom.
And we can move forward to a more complex task in which, for example, they have to imagine and describe the person living in that bedroom.
We can finish the lesson with a speaking
activity discussing in what ways that bedroom is different to the students'
bedrooms.
