This activity is for 11-12 year-old pupils (5th-6th grade of Primary Ed.).
After learning the names of some animals, I show them the picture "The Animals Entering Noah's Ark", by Jan Brueghel the younger, and they have to find as many animals as possible. This can be carried out either individually or in little groups.
Pupils have to write the animals they find in 5-10 minutes, and the winner is the group/pupil that have found a bigger quantity of animals.
Some of them are easy to see, but some others not, such as the couple of giraffes entering the ark at the background of the picture, or the cats on the trees (most of the animals on the branches are birds, so probably they will not see the cats at first sight).
As I see it, this activity not only serves to review the names of the animals, but also to foster pupils' concentration and motivation to find more animals than the rest of their classmates.
