The Absinthe Drinker and more paintings by Edgar Degas

Shared by Mª del Carmen Rodríguez:

Level: B1. Adult learners.

The main objective is to enhance ss' knowledge about present continuous, adjectives and Impressionism.

Various pieces: Beach Scene (Degas), At the theater (Renoir), Luncheon on the grass (Monet), The ballet class (Degas), A cotton office in New Orleans.

Teacher asks SS about the people in the paintings:

-Can you tell me what these people are doing?
- Are they ordinary people?

Look closely at the piece The Absinthe Drinker, by Edgar Degas:

-What is the relationship between the man and the woman? Why are they there?
- How do they feel? Can you describe the atmosphere?
- What can you hear? What can you smell?

Jot down the conversation between the couple.
The teacher helps with the vocabulary (taught previously in class).
