The teacher projects the painting CHILDREN AT THE FOUNTAIN by August Macke on the classroom screen and does the activity as follows:
SPEAKING ACTIVITIES:
Review of colours:
Each student, in turns, will say a color they can see in the picture: red, yellow, orange, green, etc. and the teacher writes the vocabulary on the blackboard.
Review of vocabulary related to the countryside:
Each student, in turns, will choose another student to ask him/ her a question about what what they can see in the picture.
-Examples:
Is there a tree?
Are there any houses?
Can you see a fountain?
Review of geometrical shapes:
The teacher will ask the students to identify geometrical shapes in the picture: square, oval, rectangular, circle, etc. And, in turns, the students will say what they can find while the teacher points the elements the students say on the picture on the screen.
Later, the teacher can asks the questions below:
-Miscellaneous questions:
How many people can you see in the picture?
What age do you think they are?
Are they boys or girls? What makes you think that?
What season do you think they are in?
Why do you think they are there? What are they doing?
Have a look at the village. Can you find any differences with today´s villages?
WRITING ACTIVITIES:
Used to:
The students must formulate sentences to say what people used to do in the past that they do not do today.
-Examples:
People used to live in small villages
Women used to wash the clothes in the river
Women used to wear long dresses
Finak task:
The students must write a description of the painting using the vocabulary and ideas given before. They must include the student´s own personal opinion of the painting.
